Whilst Staying at The White House you can take advantage of the many local attractions available:
Behind our house is a very large field with footpaths cut through it which is wonderful for giving your dogs a good run after a long journey.
At the top of our drive is a childrens play area with swings and a slide and with plenty of space to run around and run off some of that couped up energy
Only a few hundred yards from the gates of The White House you will find a memorial plaque to The Battle of Clifton Moor fought in 1745 which was the last battle on English soil between The Troops of The Duke of Cumberland and The fleeing Jacobite Army.
As you travel towards Penrith at Eamont Bridge on the A6 you will find the reputed site of King Arthurs Round Table (signposted with a brown tourist sign)
Other visitor attractions nearby are Wetheriggs Pottery (at Clifton Dykes) where you can try your hand at throwing a pot! Jersey Ice Cream Farm (just a mile away) a working farm that has diversified into ice cream making and The Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre which is a sanctuary for birds of prey, set in the walled garden of Lowther Castle.
Brougham Hall and Castle are only a couple of miles away where you will find local craftsmen at work.
Penrith town centre is a must for anyone who enjoys searching out the many speciality shops from the top of the range grocers to John Norris Fishing shop , giftshops and antique shops.
A little further along the road to Ullswater you will find The Lake District’s Premier Attraction RHEGED The Village in the Hill. For the sporting Penrith boasts a Golf Centre and Driving Range with a Nine Hole Course (No Membership is required).
Ullswater is only a short drive away where you can sail on the lake all year round with panoramic views of Helvellyn and The Ullswater Valley.
The hustle and bustle of Windermere and Ambleside are only a short drive over the top of Kirkstone Pass from which there are breathtaking views of the whole area.
